disorientalise was founded upon a frustration: the Western mainstream continues to reduce diverse cultures and identities into simplistic, orientalist narratives. Talented artists are denied the limelight whilst select aspects of ‘Eastern’ cultures are cherrypicked, appropriated and commercialised.  

This platform seeks to ‘disorientate orientalism’, challenging these practices through critical engagement with contemporary art and culture, illuminating the vibrancy and texture of widely varied regions and peoples.
